We have twin does! Miss Perdy couldn’t wait until her due date this year. I think she knew it was St. Patrick’s Day and she wanted to celebrate her heritage – her registered herd name is Irish Whisper Perdita!
It was a textbook birth and couldn’t have gone better. Perdy is an old pro at birthing babies and doesn’t usually need any assistance at all. I had a feeling when I went out to feed first thing this morning that today was the day. Yesterday she inhaled food and minerals all day long – that’s one of her signs. And then this morning she was talking to me in the way she does when it’s almost time. She likes for me to be there with her. When she started pacing and pawing at the ground I knew it was coming within hours. “Know Thy Goat” is what I recommend if you don’t like surprises.
The twins are beautiful and bouncy and were tumbling around like weeble wobbles within minutes of birth. These two are fearless and toddled right over to me to check me out as soon as they figured out how legs are supposed to work. We’ve had goat kids in the past that were like scared wild animals and I do not enjoy socializing those at all.
We haven’t settled on names yet but I’m sure something will stick as we hang out and play with them this week.
Their first head-butt. Adorable!
