Do you have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep on occasion?
Sometimes in our busy lives we just need some help calming down at night. Or maybe you need a sweet routine to calm a fussy baby, or that toddler who just isn’t ready to give in and sleep already.
Please note: this is not advice for people who have clinical problems like insomnia or sleep apnea.
I have a few simple, safe solutions that I use for myself and my family.
Personally, I always take magnesium at night. It is one of the most important minerals that we can supplement with. I have taken it daily for almost 20 years, and have learned when my body is requesting more – when I get muscle twitches, or eyelid twitching, or restless legs it is a sign to me that I need more. It helps me fall asleep.
I encourage you to do some reading about magnesium. One book I learned alot from is The Magnesium Miracle by Carolyn Dean
*You have to make sure you choose a magnesium that won’t give you digestive troubles. There are topical magnesium oils, one that you can drink called Natural Calm, magnesium or epsom salts for soaking in a bath, but I prefer a slow release tablet formula and my favorite is from JigsawHealth.com
The other simple thing I use is essential oils.
We have become so fond of our oils that each of us has a bottle or 2 (or a dozen *ahem*) on our nightstands. Hubby likes cedarwood and lavender. The kids like lavender and SleepyIze.
I use lavender nightly, but also like to add to it, usually choosing from Tranquil, Stress Away, Sacred Mountain, and RutaVala.
We apply it to our feet, neck, chests, or shoulders. Just a couple drops will do and peaceful dreams are on the way quickly.
You could also diffuse your favorite peaceful dreams combo – maybe cedarwood and lavender, or Stress Away with orange.
For those who need a heftier punch at bedtime, we keep a bottle of SleepEssence on hand. It has essential oils and melatonin. I personally can’t use melatonin, but many people find it to be a great supplement.
Hope these tips help you! If there is someone in your life who has trouble sleeping, please share this post and help them.
