“There are no other options”
“Sorry, there is nothing else we can do”
“Just take take this *insert name of medication* and just deal with the side effects”
These phrases make my skin crawl! They make me mad too! And I know there are lots of other phrases that we get treated to when we are seeking help. The tests say there is nothing wrong with us, so sorry you are on your own.
I have personally heard these phrases. It’s disheartening. In my experience, I started wondering what the point was of wasting my time. A few times I took the pills that were prescribed, only to come back with complaints (like after gaining a huge amount of weight in a short amount of time after starting the pills that were prescribed to help PMS – not to mention how it totally destroyed my libido). I was told that my daily habits were obviously to blame.
There were other incidents too but I think you get the drift.
This is exactly the kind of stuff that led me into looking out for myself, taking care of myself, finding answers for myself.
I discovered alot of great books and products along the way – my first favorite was Dr. John Lee’s book on hormones “What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Premenopause” . Yes, I had just hit the ripe old age of 30 so my doctor couldn’t even conceive that I was possible having those symptoms so he blew me off. But I’ll tell ya – he never had the pleasure of enduring a hot flash and I don’t give a fig what he said. There is no mistaking the feeling of your body boiling on the inside and you will do whatever you can to make it stop!
Have you read it? It’s fascinating info and I found myself in those pages nearly word for word. That was my first step into the natural self-help world. I still use progesterone to this day, but have changed brands.
I have read and tried lots of things since that book. Herbs, nutrition, essential oils, vitamins and minerals, etc. I have learned that I probably won’t ever learn it all. That’s OK.
I was saddened to hear a woman in one of my groups was needing support for what she believes is adrenal fatigue – she has been barley able to function, has had the tests that say she is fine, and would love to see a naturopath but the soonest appointment is in November of 2015! That’s ridiculous! Until then she is probably going to have to start experimenting just like so many of us have already.
I hope that western medicine comes around soon and starts paying attention to our needs. Until then, I try things as do many of my friends. Natural products are quite safe and I have found relief with them. If it’s a question of taking steroids and pain pills with crazy bad side effects for my acne or autoimmune flares, or a capsule of essential oils that provide the support my body needs (in my experience) to have fewer flares – you know what my choice is going to be!
I have settled on a few supplements for now because they work really well to support my body.
If you are curious about oils, let me know. I’ll tell you what I know and I won’t hound you to buy. Of course, it makes my day and I DO earn money when someone does get started with oils. I’m not going to blow smoke and tell you otherwise, but I want it to be YOUR choice. I love it when people research and think and ask questions!
I just want you to know that there ARE choices. Sharing what we know is the first step to helping others.
