We are just outside of the area in the blizzard warning today. I like snow and cold weather so I’m happy that we are finally getting some this year. Last year was dreadful – all it did was rain and make mud. Now that we have the tiny farm-let, we think rain in the winter is most unpleasant and prefer that the ground stays frozen. The animals don’t mind the cold weather unless it is very windy and wet. The goats grow a thick wooly coat and the chickens and ducks are well insulated. If there is snow on the ground, they will usually go out in it. We leave a door open for them so they can make their own decision. The rabbits live up near the house under the porch and I give them plenty of hay to keep them busy. We don’t worry too much unless we have a young litter.
The ducks all hunkered down
The kids are thrilled that they will get to play in the snow while on vacation from school. Greg is home on vacation too, so he will take them sledding once the roads get cleared. Thanks to Thieves oil, the rest of us escaped the nasty virus my youngest child had.
I am just going to stay at home and enjoy the beauty of fresh snow and do some healthy cooking and a little exercise. I am feeling sluggish and heavy from all the holiday food and it’s time to get the sweets out of the house. We got a new smoker/grill that I can’t wait to try out and I have a home grown chicken thawed and ready to go once the wind dies down and I’m making a pot of chili with home-canned tomato sauce.
Today’s essential oil tip – inhale or dab on a little peppermint or En-R-Gee oil before you work out for an energy boost and to clear your mind. I keep a bottle near my workout station downstairs.
