This is all very new to me. What to talk about first? Do I wait for inspiration? A good friend suggested I start with a little about me and this unique and sometimes odd path that God has me walking. I am lucky to be a stay at home mom to 3 great kids and wife to Greg, the best guy ever. I also tend to our little suburban farm on just over an acre. We have dairy goats, chickens, ducks, and rabbits. I have always loved farms and animals – ever since I was a little girl I had an interest in goats. I was lucky enough to own rabbits and be in 4-H as a kid. I love those memories. When we moved to our little patch of land about 9 years ago I never imagined being anything more than a typical suburban family. But God had other ideas. The country life was calling to me and my hubby. We wanted the kids to know that side of life, and I wanted something else to keep me busy while staying at home. So we built a coop and bought some baby chicks and that’s how it all began. We discovered that small goats can be great for urban areas so we got a mother/daughter pair of mini goats. The ducks were a 4-H project for my daughter. The rabbits are cute and cuddly and also 4-H projects. I’ll introduce them all eventually.
The other thing about me is that I love natural health and remedies. I am research addict and if something interests me, I will learn everything I can. I knew that animals need special care but I wasn’t excited about possibly going into debt for vet care. So in my self-sufficient way I have learned about herbs and just recently I started with essential oils and I love them so much! I have had great success keeping the animals and myself and the family healthy through these means. Of course the vet (and the family doctor) is consulted for emergencies – I know my limits. It’s really satisfying to be able to take care of them myself.
