If you are a goat owner, you’ve heard it too “I heard goats eat everything!” If you are not a goats owner, this is a quick lesson.
Truth is, some goats are like picky little kids. And they hate changes.
We got a beautiful stack of fresh alfalfa and grass mixed hay delivered yesterday. It’s much better than last year’s hay. Last year the weather was bad, hay was in short supply and not very good quality and we were lucky to get the stemmy bales that we did.
So one would think that the nice, lush new hay I put out there this morning was gobbled down and had them begging for more.
They took one look, sniffed it, turned their noses up and stomped away. Then they turned to me and started wailing their complaints.
But I have raised 3 picky human kids so the cries never sway me. “Too bad, so sad. That’s all you are getting” I tell them as I walk away.
I can hear them snorting and puffing as they start to pick through it. Every now and then they let out a pitiful cry about how they hate it.
This will be life for a few days until they accept their fate of delicious fresh hay. I know that I”m not alone – my goat owning friends go through the same thing every time a new load of hay is bought. We just laugh because it reinforces what we know…
