Fair week has come to an end for us and we are quite happy to be back to normal. We came home and laid around all day yesterday out of exhaustion and it was great!
The weather was hot, hot, hot, stormy, and very humid all except the last day. It turned was blessedly cool and everyone was so happy to have at least one nice day to enjoy.
The rabbit show went fast this year, because rabbit projects were way down in numbers and they also had two judges working it. Most of our rabbits did not do very well, which didn’t surprise us. It was good to get confirmation and now we know which way to go with our rabbit breeding for next year. We had one surprise with our little red New Zealand that was entered as a single fryer market rabbit. The judge really liked it, said it had amazing body type and fur but it was just a smidge less filled out than the top rabbit. It placed second and my daughter was thrilled that she got a trophy. We were so excited!
This year was the first time we have ever been in the market animal sale and we didn’t know what to expect. We found out at the last minute that before the sale there is a meet-and-greet where all the 4-H kids can chat with the buyers. It’s all in good fun and the buyers really want to see who knows about their animals, who has been working hard, etc. My daughter must have made an impression because her 2nd place rabbit got a higher bid than the champion!
Over all it was a good week. We wish the weather had been better – but it’s mid July and that’s how it is every year. We ate some yummy fair food, the kids rode the rides, and we got to hang out with alot of great people in the 4-H program.
