It started snowing hard this morning so I went out to check on all the animals and make sure everyone was happy. I was just about to walk out of the chicken yard when I spotted a duck egg near the doorway. That was really exciting (or should I say egg-citing? terrible joke haha) because I haven’t found any duck eggs for a couple weeks. With ducks, it’s hard to tell if they are taking some time off or just being lazy about where they drop their eggs. Some ducks just don’t care to use a nestbox like the chickens do. I think mine are being lazy. I picked up the egg and was headed back to the house but the goats were begging for attention so I stopped off to give them some scratches.
She’s a lovebug
I stuffed that egg in my coat pocket and immediately forgot that I did, leaned over the fence to give Perdy some love, and crrraaaaaack. Sigh. Luckily because the egg had been on the ground, it was almost frozen so not too much of a mess was left in my pocket. I am bummed that I don’t have a duck egg to bake with now.
Just for kicks, I’ll show off Dame Edna. She’s a young Peahen who flew in one day from parts unknown and decided she likes it here. She hangs out with one of our little hens who is not quite right and is a loner. They are outcasts together. Isn’t she pretty? I love watching her strut around the yard.
Lovely Dame Edna
